Looking for the price of a private Spanish tutor? The full 2026 price table is in Spanish tutor cost: private tutor prices. This article compares apps, group classes and 1:1 tutoring.

Short answer: private Spanish lessons cost more per hour than apps or group classes, and prices vary widely with the tutor's experience, the platform and the country. At Spanish Tinto a 50-minute 1:1 lesson costs USD 40 (EUR 37), packs bring it down to USD 30 (EUR 27.50) per lesson, and the first lesson is a 25-minute half lesson ($15 / €13).

I'm Santiago Garnica, a Spanish tutor from Bogotá and a lawyer (Universidad del Rosario). I teach 1:1 online and explain in English (C1) or German (B2) when a rule gets in the way. Below is how I'd think about Spanish tutor cost if I were the one paying, including my own prices, written out in full.

How much do private Spanish lessons cost in general?

There is no single market price, and I won't quote an "average" I can't source. What you will see when you compare offers:

  • Marketplace tutors set their own rates, so the same platform can list very cheap beginner tutors and much more expensive specialists side by side.
  • Independent tutors with their own website usually publish a fixed price and packs, often a little above the cheapest marketplace offers and below language schools.
  • Language schools and in-person teachers in Germany, Austria, Switzerland or the US tend to sit at the upper end, because rent and administration are part of the price.

The useful question isn't "what's the cheapest hour?" but "what does one hour of my speaking, with correction, cost me?"

What affects the price of a Spanish tutor?

  • Lesson length. A "lesson" can be 25, 45, 50 or 60 minutes. Always compare price per minute.
  • Experience and specialization. Business Spanish, exam preparation or a tutor who can explain in your own language usually costs more than casual conversation.
  • Platform fees. Marketplaces take a commission, which ends up in the price you pay or in the tutor's income.
  • Packs vs single lessons. Most tutors give a lower per-lesson price for bigger packs, in exchange for commitment.
  • Location and currency. A tutor living in Colombia has different costs from one in Munich, which is one reason Latin American tutors can offer good value.

Apps vs group classes vs 1:1: what you really get

OptionTypical costWhat it's good atWhere it falls short
Appsfree to a small monthly subscriptionvocabulary, daily habit, listeningalmost no free speaking, no real correction
Group classmoderate per hour, sharedstructure, fixed schedule, sociallittle speaking time per person, fixed pace
Private 1:1highest per hourmaximum speaking time, correction, your goalsyou pay for the whole hour yourself

In a group of eight, you might speak for a few minutes per hour. In a 50-minute 1:1 lesson you speak for most of it. So per minute of your speaking, private lessons are often less expensive than they look. I compare both in more detail in Private Spanish tutor vs language apps.

How to judge value before you pay

  1. Ask what a typical lesson looks like. "We'll just chat" isn't a method. You want a weekly focus and correction you can remember.
  2. Count your speaking time. If you mostly listen, the hour is expensive whatever it costs.
  3. Check how corrections work. A few important fixes per lesson beat being interrupted every sentence.
  4. Compare per minute and per pack. Divide the pack price by lessons and minutes.
  5. Read the conditions. How long are packs valid, what happens if you cancel late?
  6. Use the half lesson. A 25-minute half lesson is the cheapest way to test fit.

Which pack makes sense for you?

  • Just testing: the half lesson, then a single lesson.
  • One lesson a week for a month: the 5-pack.
  • A serious quarter (two to three months): the 10-pack, which is what most learners pick.
  • Long-term, twice a week: the 20-pack for the lowest per-lesson price.

FAQ

How much does a private Spanish tutor cost at Spanish Tinto?

A single 50-minute lesson costs USD 40 (EUR 37). Packs: 5 lessons USD 170 (EUR 155), 10 lessons USD 325 (EUR 300), 20 lessons USD 600 (EUR 550). The first lesson is a 25-minute half lesson for $15 / €13.

Are Spanish classes cheaper in a group?

Per hour, yes. Per minute of your own speaking, often not, because you share the hour with the rest of the group.

Can an app replace a Spanish tutor?

Apps are good for vocabulary and habit. They can't hold a real conversation with you or correct how you actually speak. Many learners combine both.

Why are some tutors much cheaper than others?

Lesson length, experience, specialization, platform commission and the tutor's cost of living all play a role. A low price per hour says nothing about how much you speak.

How do I start?

$15 / €13 for 25 minutes, and it doesn't commit you to buying a pack.
